Wolf Gerrit Fruhe
Wolf-Gerrit Früh is Senior Lecturer in Energy Engineering at the Department of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh (UK). He holds a BA in Physics from Albert-Ludwigs Universität, Freiburg (Germany) and a DPhil in Atmospheric Physics from the University of Oxford (UK).
Since 1997 he has served as Member of the Graduate School Strategy Group, Course Director for BEng/MEng in Mechanical Engineering and Energy Engineering, Course Director for MSc in Energy, Postgraduate Teaching Coordinator for the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences, Director of Studies for 3rd-year Mechanical Engineering student, Departmental representative on the Science Faculty Board, Faculty representative on the University’s Learning Technology Users Committee, Member of the Departmental Research Committee and Director of Postgraduate Studies.
His research interests are in Renewable energy technology, Heat, fluid flow, and mixing in rotating fluids, Ferrohydrodynamics of magnetic liquids or ferrofluids.
In addition to over 20 refereed journal articles in international journals, he has written over 40 conference abstracts, two book reviews, and contributed to the Chambers Dictionary of Science and Technology. He is responsible (teaching) for five (5) modules in the area Energy, and specifically the postgraduate courses Foundation of Energy and Renewable Energy.
He has participated as project manager and senior scientist in 6 projects and has 12 invited talks. He has also won 4 awards (Gold Award by EASEIT-Eng, Travel award by the Royal Society, Young Scientist's Publication Award from the European Geophysical Society and Junior Research Fellow at Linacre College, Oxford).
He is a member of the Energy Institute, the European Geosciences Union and Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society. He participates in the Editorial Board of Surveys in Geophysics.
